Tetsuya Mizuguchi, creator of cult arcade titles Rez and Space Channel 5, has stepped down from Q Entertainment’s board of directors in favour of university lecturing position.
Mizuguchi, who founded Q Entertainment, is to take up the position of project professor of the Graduate School of Media Design at Keio University, Japan.
A Q Entertainment representative confirmed to Eurogamer at TGS last month that Mizuguchi has stepping away from game production for the moment.
However, the Japanese university has said Mizuguchi will "continue to produce games and further expand his expertise in the field of media design and innovative content production", suggesting his game-making days aren’t over yet.
Before Q Entertainment Mizuguchi created a number of Sega’s most popular titles, including Rez, Space Channel 5 and Sega Rally.
At Q Entertainment – founded along with former Sega, Sony and Disney exec, Shuji Utsumi – he designed the acclaim rhythm puzzle series Lumines, as well as Every Extend Extra and Child of Eden.
More recently, the designer has taken a more hands-off approach.
Q Entertainment’s latest game, Lumines Electric Symphony for the PS Vita, was produced by James Mielke, who has now joined PixelJunk developer Q-Games.
