At the end of last year Riot and BAMTech, an offshoot of MLB, agreed a reported $350 million broadcast rights deal for League of Legends eSports.
Since then we have heard very little, but according to Riot’s co-head of esports Jarred Kennedy, a new streaming service for LoL eSports is coming “soon”
Kennedy was speaking at a panel at South by South West, which was reported on by SportTechie, and revealed that BAMTech is indeed working on a proprietary streaming platform for League of Legends and that work on it is almost done. While no specific dates have been mentioned it sounds like we can expect news in the coming months.

Kennedy also calmed fears that this new service would carry a hefty cost for fans, saying that there is no plans to make people pay when the service launches. He did however say that premium content was a possibility in the future.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out, as this will be the first time a major eSport has tried to move away from the traditional streaming platforms.
