The lore of heavy metal band Iron Maiden is to be explored in a new title from Roadhouse Interactive.
Roadhouse, best known for tabletop spinoff Warhammer 40,000: Carnage, multiple Red Bull tie-in titles and Food Battle: The Game, has revealed that the free-to-play RPG Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast will be released for iOS and Android this summer.
The band itself has been offering input for the game via its Phantom Music Management team, with Roadhouse digging back into the Iron Maiden vaults.
Gamers will play as Iron Maiden mascot Eddie in his various incarnations from the band’s history, each with different abilities. Multiple worlds, time travel and combat will be featured, with enemies consisting of character drawn from Iron Maiden’s catalogue of albums, songs and art.
Legacy of the Beast’s soundtrack will feature previously unheard live recordings, recrafted for the game by engineer Tony Newton and bassist and founding member Steve Harris.
“We always thought Maiden’s music and imagery with Eddie could be perfect for gaming and it’s something we have been looking at doing again since Ed Hunter in 1999,” said Harris.
“Now, in 2016, it can all be done on a smartphone which makes it even more accessible for all our fans and also all the gamers out there.”
Phantom Music creative director Llexi Leon added: “This is the first time we’ll see Iron Maiden’s lyrical lore and the rich mythology of the record covers brought together in a cohesive universe, exploring Eddie’s immortality and inviting players to control his destiny.
"The band’s signature theatrics and musical drama set the tone for a unique adventure that’s perfect for video games.”
