Rocket League on Steam hits 1m sales milestone

Valve has announced Psyonix hit multiplayer title Rocket League has sold more than 1m copies through Steam.

It took just over seven weeks for the PC edition to reach the milestone. Psyonix announced last month that in a matter of weeks the game had garneredmore than 5m downloadsbetween PC and PS4 releases – including free downloads from its PS Plus promotion.

Valve has also revealed Rocket League – along with Portal 2 – will be included for free to those who pre-order any SteamOS hardware, including the Steam Controller, Steam Link and Steam Machine.

A Mac edition of the game is in the works as well.

"We’re extremely excited about SteamOS and Mac," Psyonix founder Dave Hagewood said. "Our PC players have already proven how much passion they have for our game, and this is a great opportunity for us to bring Rocket League to an even wider audience inside the Steam family.”

"User reviews, sales of Rocket League on Steam, and its surging rise among eSports enthusiasts make it clear that the game is an absolute sensation," Valve’s DJ Powers added.

"In addition to being tremendously fun, our testing shows it plays brilliantly with the Steam Controller. So it was a natural decision for us to work with Psyonix and offer it to gamers free of charge when they pre-order a Steam Hardware device."
