Rolomotion combines iPhone, Apple TV for console-like experience

Rolocule Games today announced its next project – rolomotion, which combines the iPhone and Apple TV to bring a motion-gaming experience to your TV without the need for a dedicated console.

The Pune-based studio had secured a round of angel funding last year, but has been laying low on its follow-up to the award-winning Flick Tennis: College Wars, which released in 2011.

Rolomotion is designed to let users play their iPhone/iPod Touch games on their TVs via Apple TV using what appears to be some form of AirPlay Mirroring.

So far, only one game has been announced for rolomotion – Motion Tennis, which you can see in action in the video below. The game will also feature a multiplayer mode, which will of course require two iOS devices, and will track calories burnt during game sessions.

"We are thrilled to announce rolomotion and we think the customers are going to love the experience of motion gaming using iPhone and Apple TV. Motion Tennis is just a start of many more exciting games we have in the pipeline," Rolocule Games founder and CEO Rohit Gupta.

You will need to purchase an Apple TV device in addition to your iPhone/iPod Touch though, which was recently released in India and is available at an MRP of Rs 8,295.

We have always been fascinated by the potential of the Apple TV and gaming and I think rolomotion is our first step in that direction. More than anything, customers may not need to buy a dedicated motion gaming console anymore,” Gupta added.

It appears that support for the tech will need to be built into games rather than rolomotion mapping existing controls to motion gestures automatically. So the success of this project may well hinge on how much support it can muster from game developers.
