It’s all change at the top, as Rare’s Sea of Thieves takes the lead as four new entries sail into leading positions on the Top Five.
However, sales of the piratical adventure aren’t the strongest, which could be a combination of several factors. The game is an always-online title for the Xbox One and PC, meaning its digital skew — not covered in this boxed chart — will likely be higher than many games. There’s also the fact that the game can be played for free for players that use the free Xbox Game Pass trial. Even returning Game Pass customers can play it for the monthly fee which, at £8, has probably contributed to lower sales of the game.
Finally, there’s the fact the game has launched marred with server errors, and has reviewed poorly (it currently has an OpenCritic score of 66.) Regardless, the game is Rare’s second No.1 in a row after Rare Replay launched in 2015.
It’s followed by escape-em-up A Way Out, coming from EA. The game has mandatory co-op play, and comes with a code in each box that allows players to invite someone to play with them for free.
The all-new top four is finished by Bandai Namco’s Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom at No.3 and a remastered Assassin’s Creed Rogue slotting in at No.4. Below that, FIFA 18 continues to sell steadily, with Burnout Paradise and UFC 3 also appearing in the Top 10 to give EA four titles in the Top Ten.
