SEED Pioneers is the most ambitious online life-simulator yet, thanks to Improbable’s SpatialOS technology

Simulation MMO, SEED, has reached its closed alpha stage, albeit under a slightly different name. Referred to as SEED Pioneers, the closed alpha works as a narrative prequel to SEED, the ambitious simulation MMO developed by Klang.

Utilising Improbable’s SpatialOS platform, SEED is an online life-simulator in which players manage multiple characters. It’s set far into the future with players working together to rebuild society and create a new home in a world similar to Earth. It’s a persistent MMO meaning that when players go offline, their characters continue to live their daily lives within the simulation, allowing the player to jump back in and catch up on what’s been going on.

Players get to colonise new worlds, explore, build new structures, as well as eventually develop economic and political systems, all within the same server, thanks to the game’s technology.

The game has been made with Unity as well as Improbable’s SpatialOS, a cloud platform that allows SEED to simulate a world much larger, richer, and with more players than any single engine or server can. It’s ambitious stuff and the closed alpha is a big step for this promising project.

The trailer for SEED Pioneers depicts some of the project’s backstory along with the location of humanity’s future home and a glimpse at what it entails to be a Pioneer.

SEED Pioneers is set to launch in 2020. Players interested in becoming part of the community can join its Discord here.
