Activision Blizzard’s Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice debuted at the top of the UK weekly charts. Sales figures for FromSoftware’s new IP are on a par with what Dark Souls sold back at launch in 2011, but are down 29 per cent compared to Bloodborne’s launch sales in 2015.
But once again, it’s worth reminding that this is physical sales only and the market has evolved drastically since 2015, with Sekiro likely doing incredibly well digitally. Actually, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has been Steam’s biggest launch of 2019 to date.
Going back to physical sales, Sekiro sold mostly on PS4 (80 per cent of the copies shifted). It’s worth noting that it’s only FromSoftware’s second No.1 in the UK charts – the previous one being Dark Souls III back in 2016, which sold twice as much as Sekiro.
Meanwhile, last week’s No.1 The Division 2, fell to second place with a 46 per cent drop in sales, which is a good performance for a second week.
There was no other new entry in the charts and the Top Ten remained mostly unchanged.
