A new mobile games development studio called Shadow Light games, formed by former Elixir staff, has opened its doors.

Shadow Light tees off

Shadow Light’s first game is Freddie Flintoff: All Round Cricket (pictured above) released recently by mobile games publisher Player One.

The company’s three management staff – Aamar Rana, MD and art manager; Ian Harper, lead technology programmer; Chris Dawson, lead artist – are all aged under 30 and hail from the team that worked on PC games Republic and Evil Genius.

Their studio’s in-house tech offers what they’ve dubbed a ‘Rapid Application Development’ set-up for producing mobile entertainment content. The company also has proprietary 2D and 3D engines, and aims to push forward with encouraging head-to-head multiplayer capabilities on Bluetooth capable handsets.

“We intend to quickly establish Shadow Light Games as the gold standard in mobile game development,” commented Aamar Rana. “We want to bring the quality of games you’ll find on your home or handheld console to the mobile phone platform. We want mobile phone users to play one of our games and be encouraged and enthused to play more on their mobile. Ultimately, we want to make great games for mobile handsets.”
