Monolith executive producer Michael ‘4G’ Forgey has died of cancer.
Forgey helped shape the creation of 2014’s acclaimed Lord of the Rings spin-off Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, as well as many other big titles, including Gears of War, Fable, Conker and Perfect Dark Zero.
He was diagnosed last May with glioblastoma, a rare form of cancer, after suffering a migraine.
In December, a YouCaring page was set up in order to help raise funds towards his treatment, with Monolith encouraging players to take part in the #ForForgey event and stream Shadow of Mordor online to drum up awareness.
This January, an update on the YouCaring page said that Forgey’s tumour had reduced in size by around 20 per cent, and added that he had enjoyed the Christmas period with his family. However, the tumour was said to be inoperable, leading to a number of other treatments being considered.
The most recent update revealed that Forgey had passed away in the early hours of March 3rd.
"His last few days were peaceful with his family by his side," said Erika Evans Carlson.
"Mike was so touched by everyone’s support during his fight. His family wants to thank everyone for their kind words and support during this difficult time."
