Shovel Knight has sold 1.2 million copies

Developer Yacht Club Games has revealed just how well its indie darling has performed.

The studio has revealed that between its launch in June 2014 and December 2015 the platformer sold more than 1m units in total – physical and digital. But in February, the Kickstarter game’s digital sales figures hit 1m units.

Shovel Knight has also sold 200,000 units physically.

The developer went into greater detail about how its title has performed, including what platforms made up its sales.

32 per cent of sales were on Steam, while 29 per cent came from 3DS. The Wii U made up 17 per cent of total sales, and a tenth of sales came from PS4. Meanwhile, Humble, GOG and PS3 were each responsible for one per cent of Shovel Knight sales.

38 per cent of the physical release sales came from Wii U and 37 per cent was from the 3DS.

What’s more – Yacht Club Games says that Shovel Knight sales are still strong, citing the title’s performance on Wii U, 3DS and Steam in the US – its launch platforms) in 2014 compared to 2015 – last year they were higher.

Thank you everyone for your unending support,” the studio said in a blog post. We couldn’t be happier that Shovel Knight is still loved and played years after its release.”
