SK Gaming go mobile with Vainglory team acquisition

One of Europe’s oldest multi-discipline eSports organisations is moving into mobile by picking up a top Vainglory organisation.

R3D Gaming has won almost every single tournament they have competed in since the launch of the tablet-based MOBA last November.

The franchise consists of three teams of three players, all of which will now play under SK Gaming’s name as the German organisation has created a new mobile division.

Chimaera and Prometheus, two of the acquired teams, are currently competing in the VGL qualifiers while the third, Odyssey, is set to debut in Korea’s Autumn Season International Premier League.

Names of SK Gaming’s size have yet to catch onto Vainglory’s wave, as the mobile MOBA has grown considerably since launch and prize pools regulary sit in the mid-to-high tens of thousands.

Super Evil MegaCorp, developers of the game, announced Nvidia and Amazon would be headline sponsors of the upcoming season finals, while the game has clocked upwards of 1m unique viewers on Twitch throughout September.

The game also recently launched in China, reaching the top spot of the iOS App Store’s most downloaded chart.
