A new mobile SDK will give developers the chance to host real money tournaments on Android devices.
The Skillz SDK hopes to boost player engagement by giving them the chance to win real money in skill-based games.
While many developers have been waiting for Nevada and other states to legalise online games of chance, games of skill can sidestep many of the legal hurdles of true gambling while still offering many of the rewards.
"Since integrating Skillz, we’re seeing increased engagement from our users in Big Sport Fishing," said Rocketmind founder Joe Hanson.
We’ve found that players who enter Skillz competitions play three times longer than their peers."
Skillz isn’t limited to cash tournaments. Players can play for free as well, but either way the element of competition is intended to up the excitement and get them hooked.
"Tournaments take mobile gaming to the next level by enhancing gameplay, making it more social and fun as players compete against each other," said Skillz CEO and Founder Andrew Paradise.
"For developers, competitions translate into longer sessions, better user retention and increased revenue."
The open beta is currently available for Android developers, and ten studios are already on board.
