Smash Evo champ ZeRo confirms move to join Team SoloMid

Unbeatable Smash 4 champ Gonzalo "ZeRo" Barrios has been signed to eSports organisation Team SoloMid, the player confirmed to eSports Pro today.

After taking first place this month at Evo, and 39 consecutive tournaments beforehand, the Chilean king of Smash Bros for Wii U said that he was glad to be joining the team.

"TSM is my favourite eSports team," ZeRo told eSports Pro. "You see, I’m actually a League of Legends player and a fan of many different personalities. My favourite player in the scene is Dyrus, so my favourite team is TSM. I’ve been keeping up with them long before the LCS was even a thing."

The team, though mostly known for their League of Legends team which places highly in North America’s LCS, also has a Counter-Strike team which won last week’s DreamHack Valencia tournament.

ZeRo was previously under the little known CLASH tournament broadcasters organisation, a Twitch channel devoted to Nintendo fighting games, until he left in November last year.

For the past nine months, ZeRo has won every single major tournament, including Apex and Evo 2015, the biggest events on the Smash eSports calendar, while fending off organisations trying to sign him.

"I had a lot of very interesting offers from a wide selection of teams," ZeRo said. "I got a lot of offers before and after EVO, but the moment TSM approached me, I just couldn’t say no. It’s just irresistible!"

ZeRo joins fellow heavyweight and Smash Melee playerWilliam "Leffen" Hjelte, who placed fifth at Evo this year.
