SNK orders termination of Neo Geo X manufacturing

Rights holder SNK has terminated its licensing agreement with the manufacturer of the Neo Geo X.

The machine, which was made available by Blaze in the UK, includes a handheld that plays emulated versions of a host of Neo Geo games, a dock (fashioned on the original Neo Geo console) through which said games could be played on a TV and a Neo Geo style joystick.

Please be informed that the license and distribution agreement between TOMMO Inc and our company is terminated as of October 2nd, 2013,” an official statement reads.

Upon termination of the License and Distribution Agreement, SNK has demanded that TOMMO Inc immediately cease any and all manufacturing, distribution, marketing & promotion and selling of the licensed products.

In addition, SNK has demanded TOMMO immediately cease all sales of the SNK Neo Geo X Arcade Stick product being sold separately from the Neo Geo X Gold Plug and Play Console, and remove the SNK Neo Geo X Arcade Stick product from store shelves and online retailers.

In order to protect our intellectual property rights such as Neo Geo and SNK, decisive measures will be taken against all unapproved Neo Geo X products not subject to the license agreement.”

It seems that the console is still available in the UK, albeit at a heavily reduced price of ‘just’ 174.99. Blaze claimed that the machine was a sell-out late last year. MCV has contacted Blaze regarding the machine’s UK availability
