Sony abandons PlayStation Mobile Android support

Support for the Android portion of PlayStation Mobile is to end, Sony has confirmed.

The Verge reports the firm’s cross-platform indie game publishing service for PS Vita and Android platforms will fall by the wayside.

Service will continue to operate on PlayStation Certified devices running Android 4.4.2 and below, but the company states it can’t guarantee games will play properly on devices running Android 4.4.3 and up—or that users will be able to access the store to begin with.

The upcoming line of Android L smartphones and tablets won’t have store access period, and Sony makes it clear it has no plans to certify any more devices.

Sony launched the PlayStation Mobile initiative back in 2012, announcing a decent-sized lineup of third-party and indie developers at the time.
