PlayStation Network accounts are about to become more secure thanks to new security measures from Sony.
The long-awaited two-step verification measures are finally being rolled out for PSN accounts. This measure was announced earlier this year by a Sony representative speaking to Polygon in April.
Two-step (or two-factor) authentication means that users have to have two seperate sets of information to access an account. The first is usually their username and password, while the second is generally a code accessed via a seperate phone app or sent to their phone via text.
Those signed up to these measures on PlayStation Network will be sent a text message with a verification code when they sign into their PSN account. This code will need to be entered in order to have access to PSN on the device they are signing.

Sony has come under fire for its security on PSN in the past as well as how it handles break-ins. In 2015, the firm was investigated by consumer rights programme Watchdog after fraudulent purchases were made from PSN accounts.
The introduction of two-factor verification brings PlayStation Network in line with other game services, including Xbox Live, Steam and Battle.net.
