The number of launch PS4’s believed to have suffered technical failures is higher than initially estimated.
Sony last week estimated that the number of affected systems represents less than 0.4 per cent of shipped units to date” which was at the time within [Sony’s] expectations for a new product introduction".
However, that estimate has now been altered to less than one per cent”.
"There have been several issues reported, which leads us to believe there isn’t a singular problem that could impact a broader percentage of PS4 units," SCEA spokesperson told TechRadar.
"We also understand that some units were reportedly damaged during shipping. The number of affected PS4 systems is less than one per cent, which represents a very small percentage of total units shipped to date and is within the expected range for a new product introduction.
"We understand the frustration of consumers that have had a problem and are working with them and our retail partners to help troubleshoot issues and ensure affected units are exchanged.”
Sony is said to be quickly replacing consoles to any affected users.
