New London studio Space Ape Games’ debut title Samurai Siege has generated more than $12m in revenue during its first six months of release.
The multiplayer strategy title has garnered 5.5 million downloads on iOS and Android since it was released in October last year. On average the game has made $2m a month to date.
The title was also launched in Japan on May 1st and is currently ranked 22nd on the top free games chart on the App Store and 55th in the top grossing table.
The 45-strong team is now at work on developing a new game, as well as continuing to support Samurai Siege.
“We are very proud of the global success of Samurai Siege, especially given our company is so young,” said Space Ape Games CEO John Earner.
“We have employees from 17 nationalities including Brazil, China, Japan, and the US and when your product is live in 149 countries, that is important.
“With Samurai Siege we’ve made the difficult first step of making a hit. Now we’re focused on that second step of scaling up to two teams: one continuing to improve upon Samurai Siege each week, and the other developing a new title. We are also very keen to build strong communities within our games, we admire Riot Games’ approach and are looking to replicate that with our mobile fans.”
Space Ape Games was formed by ex-Playfish GM John Earner, former Playfish director of product management Simon Hade, ex-Mind Candy CTO Toby Moore and a number of other ex-Playfish employees.
