John Woo plans to direct and produce the movie adaptation of a new game from Warren Spector.

Spector teams with Woo for new project

Called Ninja Gold, the new franchise has been created by Spector who also created the likes of Deus Ex, Thief and System Shock. The game takes a ninja character and places his historical bloodline in the context of modern warfare. Spector will be executive producer on the film which will be handled by Fox’s Atomic label.

"The game concept is actually based on facts that the Yakuza and the Russian mob are involved in tons of gold being stolen in South Africa," said Terrence Chang, Woo’s production partner in an interview with Reuters

Added Spector: "The idea actually started with John Woo. He wanted to do something involving traditional ninjas in a modern-day setting, and the idea just resonated with me. I was intrigued with the idea of what happens when the traditional and the contemporary come into conflict."
