Square Enix has announced it is taking its “multimedia concert phenomenon” NieR:Orchestra Concert re:12018 on the road again, this time heading to London and Chicago in early 2020.
The show, which was delivered to four sold-out performances in Tokyo in 2018, will give fans the chance to “experience the game world of NieR like never before”. Firstly, the concert is heading to Chicago, US, at the Rosemont Theatre on Friday, January 24, 2020. A week later, the tour hits the UK, and will entertain British fans at the Royal Festival Hall, London, on Sunday, February 2, 2020.
“The European and North American premiere concerts will be performed by a full symphony orchestra and chorus, and will feature the vocal stylings of renowned soloist Emi Evans, under the direction of Grammy Award-winning conductor Arnie Roth,” Square Enix explained in a press release. “NieR Replicant & Gestalt and NieR:Automata director Yoko Taro and composer Keiichi Okabe have created HD video projections especially for these concerts, which will be projected onto giant screens throughout the performance.
“With these spectacular visuals, accompanied by the sonic power of over 100 musicians on stage, the NieR:Orchestra Concert re:12018 is a spectacle not to be missed.”
The NieR:Orchestra Concert re:12018 follows a number of notable game music tours, including Konami’s Silent Hill in 2015, and Skyrim the following year. And though the work of musicians that operate within the video game space is often overlooked, Classic FM has recently been recognising the incredible work that has become beloved by fans around the world, even teaming with PlayStation to bring a classical video game concert to London last year. Square Enix also regularly entertains fans at its Final Fantasy XIV FanFests when The Primals and Susan Calloway take the stage.
