Square scrapped FFXIII DLC plans

Final Fantasy XIII was to be the recipient of some form of post-release DLC – that is, until publisher Square Enix abandoned the plans.

According to 1UP, the game’s director Motomu Toriyama previously told gamers to hold on to their game save after completing the game. However, speaking to Famitsu the developer has now stated: We were planning to make some DLC, but that plan wound up not happening. I’m sorry!”

In addition, Square Enix has at long last brought the ‘will-they-won’t-they’ saga to an end by confirming that it is to release the Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII to Japan. Until now the game has been a PS3 exclusive in the country.

Furthermore, the SKU will be the International Edition of the game which includes a greater array of language options, a new easier difficulty setting and the reintroduction of a number of previously removed cut scenes and levels.

However, Western gamers have been told that there are no plans for a European or American release for the SKU as, according to the publisher, there’s no reason to release this version outside of Japan”.

If the game proves to be region free, however (as all PS3 titles are), some Xbox 360 fans may choose to import it.

Final Fantasy XIII will be released on Xbox 360 in Japan on December 16th.
