Studio to 'ratchet up' its speed of growth during the next year

Stainless Games begins hiring run for 20 new devs

UK developer Stainless Games has begun a new hiring run as it searches for 20 new staff to join its offices in the Isle of Wight, the company’s COO has told Develop.

The studio, which has created games such as Magic: The Gathering and Risk: Factions, currently has 51 members on its team, with the aim to increase that number to approximately 70 by the end of the year.

Stainless COO Matt Edmunds that the company was primarily looking for programmers and producers as it looks to speed up the company’s expansion.

“We’ve undergone evolutionary expansion over the last few years, but are looking to ratchet up the speed this year,” said Edmunds.

“We’re aiming to have approximately 70 employees by the end of the year. Should make the Christmas party fun.”

The developer is currently working on Kickstarter-funded title Carmageddon Reincarnation, which has surpassed its target goal and currently stands at more than $500,000 with 60 hours still remaining.

Edmunds said using the crowd-funding website meant the studio would have greater control over the title’s direction and allow it to engage with users more easily.

“While we’re self-funding development of Carmageddon: Reincarnation, we can make a better game, sooner, with more funding,” he said.

“The two main reasons we decided to use Kickstarter were firstly because it allows us to retain complete creative control while retaining rights to all IP, and secondly because it allows us to engage with the community much more closely.

"It’s great to be able to hone your title based on comments from fans and critics alike.”
