Over 2,000 free Steam Machines were distributed to attendees of Valve’s Steam Dev Days conference in Seattle.
The company behind Half-Life and the Steam digital distribution service organized the developer-only “off the record” conference to make sure game creators understood and were excited by its drive to get Linux PCs into the living room entertainment ecosystem.
So far that seems to be working brilliantly, and developers have been sharing news from the conference all day at the Twitter hashtag #SteamDevDays.
The kit pictured above was handed to David Tse of Subsurface Games, and looks to be one of the lower tier Steam Machines designed to stream content from another PC.
This isn’t the only news to come out of the event: today Valve reaffirmed its intention to include TV, music, and Movie apps for SteamOS before release, revealed a new Steam Controller minus the original touchscreen, announced plans to discontinue its Greenlight community voting system, and Alienware set a launch date of September for its Steam Machine.
That’s quite a lot of information in just one day, so stay tuned to Develop and follow #SteamDevDays on Twitter to keep up with the latest news.
