Street Fighter V joins the Gfinity Challenger Series

Gfinity have announced the second of three titles that will be played in its Challenger and Elite Series competitions.

Street Fighter V is the latest game to be revealed for the competition, after Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was announced earlier in the week.

This marks the first time that Gfinity has ventured in the world of fighting games, although Martin Wyatt, head of partner relations at Gfinity told eSports Pro last year that the fighting game scene was an area he wanted to expand into.

The Street Fighter competition will follow the same format as the CS:GO, with online competition deciding the best players who will be drafted to pro teams in a few months. The announcement also revealed that there will be eight teams involved in the draft.

Neville Upton, Chief Executive Officer, Gfinity plc, said: "We are delighted to announce that Street Fighter V is part of the Gfinity Elite Series during 2017. Street Fighter is one of the most iconic brands in the video gaming industry, with a passionate global community of fans. We look forward to welcoming them to the Elite Series, a tournament that we believe will have a big impact on eSports in the UK."

Matt Edwards, Community and eSports Manager, Capcom said "The UK is home to a very strong and expanding Street Fighter V competitive scene with vibrant communities in London, Birmingham, Glasgow, Manchester, Edinburgh, Leeds and Leicester to name a few. This makes our new partnership with Gfinity even more exciting. It gives aspiring Street Fighter V players an all new league to rise up and compete with the best."
