Team Meat promises 'feature length touch controlled platformer specifically designed for touch devices'

Super Meat Boy jumping to iOS

Hit Indie platformer Super Meat Boy is being remade for iOS, the developer has revealed.

Speaking on Team Meat’s official blog, Edmund McMillen said the developer would be remaking the entire game from the ground-up, rather than doing a straight port of the existing title from PC and XBLA.

He added that the game would be “a feature length touch controlled platformer specifically designed for touch devices” to avoid the use of non-tactile buttons spread on the screen blocking a player’s view.

“Sadly, there was no way of doing this without the game becoming a pile of garbage,” said McMillen.

“Super Meat Boy is a twitch platformer with precision controls, there was no way in hell this would work on a touch screen with buttons all over it, Super Meat Boy isn’t a game we want to make a sub-par version of just to cash in.

“So, we decided to totally remake the whole game instead, from the ground up."

McMillen also promised fans new art, sound and other additions to the iOS version of the hit indie title.

News of a touch control version comes after Team Meat announced in January that Super Meat Boy had surpassed one million sales.
