SuperData: $6.2bn generated from digital game sales in April

Digital game sales around the world rose by five per cents, reaching $6.2bn according to research firm SuperData.

The company says that digital console saw the fastest growth, with a 23 per cent spike in revenue year-on-year. Meanwhile, audience rose 15 per cent.

Mobile, MMO and PC games also saw increases in both revenue and monthly active users. Social gaming saw a ten per cent dip, however, which SuperData says is the result of consumers moving from desktop to mobile devices.

April was a good month for mobile gaming, with Supercell’s Clash games earning over $100m. SuperData notes that Clash of Clans revenue has dipped recently from $5m a day to a mere $4m.

Over in the console charts, Dark Souls brought in $45m on PC alone. The firm also says that the console versions brought in $27m. It was the best-selling game in the PC charts, but failed to make it into the digital console Top Ten.
