Syfy announces social gaming plans

Syfy will publish it first social games later this year as the broadcaster aims for a larger share of that market.

While no specific titles have been announced, they will all be based on Syfy programming and will initially be made available through Facebook in the US, according to Broadcasting & Cable. There will also be sponsorship opportunities for each game.

This bold business expansion into games publishing secures a key foundation for the powerful Syfy brand in the burgeoning social games space,” said Syfy president Dave Howe.

By providing our fans on social networks and other platforms with a distinctive, premium gaming experience, we are creating a perfect complement to our existing Syfy Games portfolio.”

Syfy has already worked with several games publishers on games projects. It is currently working with Trion Worlds on an action MMO, as well as a prequel series to THQ’s upcoming Red Faction: Armageddon.
