Channel 4â??s commissioning editor to run her own start-up

Taylor to leave Channel 4

The face of Channel 4 Education, Alice Taylor, is to resign from her role at the company.

Taylor, the broadcaster’s commissioning editor for its education department, wants to launch her own start-up company in London.

She will leave having built a strong relationship between Channel 4 and the games industry. In her role she commissioned a projects to numerous independent game studios across the UK, with the aim to educate young people who were no longer engaged by traditional media.

On her blog post Taylor said that fellow comissioning editor Jo Twist will "pick up the baton, which I’m obviously over the moon with: she’s a towering talent, and all the Education sites, games, telly and apps will be in literally the best hands in the business."

Channel 4 is closing down its 4IP digital investment arm as part of a substantial restructuring at the broadcaster. The company is merging together several connected divisions – including education commissioning – into the new C4 online department.

It was said at the time that this will not impact the education department’s commissioning team, commissions, future plans or budgets.

Taylor said she gave Channel 4 "a long, long notice period, so I can help them get stuff organised as the place goes through its pretty radical change programme."

One month ago Channel 4 revealed a new raft of commissions for its Education division, signing up the likes of Tuna, Playniac, Zoe Mode, Preloaded, Littleloud and Big Robot.

Taylor is to start her own company that will build 3D printing dolls and accessories for young girls, according to the Guardian.
