Team Liquid signs Civilization player and will run Civ tournaments

Team Liquid has announced its entry into the competitive Civilization world by signing Stephen "MrGameTheory" Takowsky and announcing a new Civ VI tournament.

Liquid is now the first major eSports team with a Civilization VI player, and boy did they get a good one. Stephen "MrGameTheory" Takowsky is one of the best Civ players in the world, often popping up at the top of leaderboards and devising new strategies.

The organization will announce the next two members of its Civ team later this week.

In an effort to bring the competitive Civ community into the more traditional side of eSports, Liquid will be running tournaments to try and identify the best players. The first tournament will kick off on November 19th, although further information such as rules and format is yet to be revealed.

"It is an honor to be chosen to lead Team Liquid’s Civilization team,” said Stephen "MrGameTheory" Takowsky. Participating in the competitive Civilization community with Steve Arhancet has been one of the great joys of my life. After we won our first Civilization Championship Cup back in 2007, with a team so small that we could barely participate in two-thirds of the events, I learned that a dedicated group of friends can accomplish the seemingly impossible. Civilization remains the most complicated game in the world, and I am thankful to be part of an organization capable of taking on the challenge. I look forward to continue my contribution to one of the greatest gaming franchises and I wish our opponents the best of luck."

For those of you wondering how competitive Civ works, the folks over at Team Liquid have a fairly comprehensive guide.
