Team17 announces sci-fi outing Genesis Alpha One

A new sci-fi title developed by German studio Radiation Blue has been signed by UK publisher Team17.

Genesis Alpha One is described as a unique mix of roguelike, FPS, base building and survival elements”. It’s in development for both PC and console.

The game blurb reads: In a near future ravaged by wars; corrupt regimes and global capitalism left unchecked have resulted in natural resource over-exploitation and pollution devastating the planet. Societies are collapsing. Supported by Earth’s remaining governments, four influential corporations initiate the Genesis program.”

Players will be tasked with both building and managing a space ship, harvesting resources from alien terrains, exploring the universe and fending off general nasties. Decisions will be a balancing act. For instance, do you want to focus on defence? Or cargo capacity? Or energy consumption?

The explorable universe will be randomly generated and boast several dynamic elements, such as space storms and rogue commanders. Hostiles won’t just have it you in space, either, with boarding parties needing to be fought off in traditional FPS combat.

It will be Radiation Blue’s first release, although its developers have worked on a string of big hits such as Hitman: Blood Money, Hitman: Contracts, Velvet Assassin, Spec Ops: The Line, SpellForce 2: Shadow Wars, SpellForce 3 and The Settlers.

We are very excited to work with Team17 on Genesis Alpha One. We highly appreciate Team17’s passion for games, their transparent developer friendly procedures and of course their exciting portfolio, that we’re now a part of,” Radiation Blue’s creative director Sascha Jungnickel said.

When we were kids, we enjoyed playing Team17 games such as Alien Breed and Worms. These creative and artistic experiences helped support our decisions to become video games creators. Today, with this partnership, things have come full circle which is incredibly exciting.”

A release date has yet to be revealed.
