Telltale could still finish the Walking Dead – with help

Telltale Games might still be able to finish the final season of its Walking Dead series after it revealed ‘multiple potential partners’ have come forward expressing an interest in helping to round off the project.

The news came via a tweet from the studio’s official account, saying:

“Multiple potential partners have stepped forward to express interest in helping to see The Final Season through to completion. While we can’t make any promises today, we are actively working towards a solution that will allow episodes 3 and 4 to be completed and released in some form.”

The post goes on to say Episode 2 will release as planned today, as it was finished before the studio’s issues took centre stage.

Last week Telltale announced it had cut its staff by some 90 per cent, with around 250 staff made redundant and a skeleton crew of about 25 left to steer what’s left of the ship.

While the Stranger Things project the team was working on looks to have bit the dust, Telltale’s other Netflix project of Minecraft: Story Mode is continuing development with the limited team.

The Walking Dead’s future was immediately in doubt, and it seems from this tweet there isn’t likely to be a positive outcome for the series – and its fans – without outside help.

Former Telltale employees, meanwhile, will have to rely on outside help of their own to get back on their feet after being relieved of their duties – reportedly without warning or severance pay
