Temple Run 2 racks up 20 million downloads; hits Android this week

Temple Run 2 has amassed 20 million downloads on the iOS platform in less than a week, and of that impressive figure, 6 million downloads were witnessed on the very first day.

The popular endless-running sequel is available as a free download for iOS devices, with players able to extend their experiences via in-app purchases.

Its predecessor, Temple Run, has been downloaded over 170 million times across iOS and Android platforms since its 2011 release, and was also subjected to a cross-branded game – Temple Run: Brave – to coincide with the release of animated film, Brave.

The response from fans has been overwhelming. We are thrilled players want more of the Temple Run universe, and we hope to grow and expand the game over the coming months,” said Keith Shepherd, co-founder of developer Imangi, in response to the game’s flying start on the App Store.

Temple Run 2 is scheduled for release on Google Play for Android devices this week, with some reports suggesting a 24th January release date.
