Ten Norwegian games receive government funding

The Norwegian Film Institute recently announced the funding of ten new Norwegian games. A total amount of 750.000 euro has been distributed among ten different developers.

Since 2005, the Norwegian Film Institute has been funding Norwegian games development. Developers can apply for start-up- and production-funding to realize their game projects. This funding has instigated a growth of small developers in Norway, as well as being an important help for established veterans like Funcom and Artplant.

Funcom is one of the ten developers receiving money in this latest funding, receiving 94.000 euro for a new post-apocalyptic online game tentatively titled Project O.

Veterans Ravn Studio received 120.000 euro for the development of their upcoming Nintendo DS-game based on Swedish heroine Pippi Longstocking. Snow Castle Studios, winner of best new studio at this years Gullstikka-awards in Norway, received 134.000 euro for an upcoming fantasy-RPG called Den Magiske Festivalen.

This funding is the first of three planned fundings for video game development from the Norwegian Film Institute this year. A total amount of two million euros are earmarked for game development funding from the institute in 2012.
