The Develop brand returns in print and online with the launch of MCV/Develop

As of today MCV is changing its name to MCV/Develop, bringing the much-respected brand back to the forefront of what we do.

The change simply better reflects what we cover. MCV is as interested in the design decisions, production challenges and cultural impact of the form, as it is in how games are funded, who plays them, and how they turn a profit.

With the ever-more complex relationships between these different aspects of the industry, we’ve decided that the core brand should better reflect the entire process. So both the magazine and website will now bear the MCV/Develop name from today.

Develop as a magazine and a website was closed at the start of 2018. The audience never actually went away, though, as we expanded MCV subscriptions to all Develop readers, continued to run the social accounts, the daily newsletter and the Develop Awards. But as time passed it did feel that we’d lost something. Something that was a key part of being a singular, broad voice for the whole games industry. 

The new MCV/Develop brand remains committed to bringing together all the UK games industry, to provide a platform for you to talk to each other and for us to provide comment on the issues of the day. 

Developers have always been at the centre of what we report on and have increasingly dominated the cover of the magazine more than not, so there’s no urgent need for a change in content. But this is just a first step. Expect significant changes to our output in the new year to live up fully to our new name.

In addition, we’ll shortly be launching the all new MCV/Develop awards, with a broader range of categories which celebrate all the key strengths of the UK industry, and all an all-new system for judging the winners. More on those in the upcoming weeks but for now just put the 5th of March in your diary. 

One last thing, we hope you’ve noticed that we’ve got our annual Future Games Summit next month. Designed to engage and inform C-level attendees, with speakers from Team17, Google, Twitter, the BBC and many more. We hope you’ll join us on the 25th and 26th of November in central London.

The ‘first’ issue of MCV/Develop will be with subscribers later this week. And from today all MCV and Develop newsletter subscribers will receive the new MCV/Develop newsletter.
