The Intel Android Developer Field Guide: Resources for the whole development journey

Android development is a fast-moving world where we’re always looking ahead in anticipation of newer, better apps. But even the best idea won’t materialise unless developers have access to the right support and infrastructure. Luckily, there are plenty of services out there to help.

The Developer Field Guide provides the next generation of Android developers with the tools they need to develop, design and deliver their apps, with some great learning resources contributed by industry experts. Here’s a stage-by-stage breakdown.

Ideate

The first stage of any app development process is ideation: nurturing the first sparks of inspiration that will grow into a coherent, convincing concept for a great application. In the first part of the Developer Field Guide, Paul Blundell curates a series of resources to help you conceive great apps that will make users’ lives easier or more fun.

Design

Next up is design, where form and function meet. To create a successful design, app creators must think like app users. There are plenty of Android design and UX resources here, curated by Jason Mark who has some great insights into how to build an app that isn’t just a tool, but a brand in itself.

Build

In the Build section of the Developer Field Guide, Mark Murphy rounds up resources that will help developers write and debug their Android apps more efficiently.

Launch

Once the bugs have been ironed out of your app, it’s time for lift-off. In this final section, Shen Ye introduces some of his favourite resources, including Google’s Android development site and Stackoverflow. Shen stresses the importance of networking in the industry and establishing good connections that will give your app the best chance of gaining recognition.

Tools

In parallel with these curated resources, the Developer Field Guide offers app creators its own range of development assets including free tools.
