The executive producer of The Master Chief Collection has compared the upcoming Xbox One collection to how some people use Netflix.
I liken it a lot to binging on Netflix before a next season of something comes out,” Dan Ayoub told GamesTM, saying the SKU is a great way for people to catch up” prior to the release of Halo 5 next year.
As you look at modern games like Call Of Duty and Titanfall, they really owe their legacy to Halo 2’s multiplayer. Going back to it has just been a fantastic stroll down memory lane. That was really the game, on a personal level, that got me playing multiplayer on console, like for so many others. It’s been an absolute blast.”
IGN, meanwhile, reports that the Halo 2: Anniversary component of The Master Chief Collection runs at a sub-HD 1328x1080px.
During development we were really pleased with the way the engine and buffer allowed us to switch instantly between classic and Anniversary engines that are running simultaneously,” Ayoub said.
However that, as you might expect, put a hit on resolution. The campaign of Halo 2: Anniversary looked fantastic at 720p with the level of detail and clarity it gave us, but like every other aspect of the game and tech, we wanted to push it further. So in the last weeks of development, our teams were able to meet a stretch goal and the campaign of Halo 2: Anniversary now runs 60 fps at a crisp resolution of 1328×1080, which is a significant and meaningful boost in image quality we think fans are really going to appreciate.”
The SKU’s other games – Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Edition, Halo 3 and Halo 4 all run at a native 1920×1080. All titles run at 60fps.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection comes out on November 11th.
