Earlier today the eSports Integrity Coalition was announced, which aims to end match fixing, doping and cheating in general in the eSports world.
ESIC is a non profit association that has been formed to try and prevent cheating in eSports, and more specifically any kind of cheating or fraud that will impact betting. While there is still many eSports organisations that are still in talks to join the ESIC, the initial list of members and supporters includes names such as ESL, DreamHack, Intel, and many betting companies.
The ESIC has created a programme that consists of a code of conduct, an anti corruption code, an anti doping policy and an independent disciplinary procedure, which will combat threats to the integrity of eSports competition. The organisation will also be educating members of the eSports world in anti corruption measures, with over 100 industry professionals having already attended presentations on the matter.
It has been eye-opening and a privilege to work in esports these past nine months and to have gained sufficient trust within the industry to be appointed the first Integrity Commissioner,” said Ian Smith, integrity commissioner at ESIC. I have spent the last 20 years working across a range of sports, involved heavily in the protection of their integrity, so I am looking forward to applying all those insights and experience to the eSports ecosystem. There are many challenges ahead, but it is to eSports’ credit that the industry is taking these steps in anticipation of a foreseeable problem, rather than in reaction to a crisis, which is the route taken by most traditional sports to date.”
Smith will be working with other members of the ESIC’s founding board, which includes Anna Rozwandowicz, director of communications at ESL and Bryce Blum, director of eSports at Unikrn, as members directors.
