Three Fields’ Burnout successor coming to VR

Develop has learned that the spiritual successor to Burnout teased today could be heading to virtual reality platforms.

Alex Ward, co-founder of Burnout dev Criterion and new studio Three Fields Entertainment, confirmed the latter was working on a new Burnout-esque game for the latest consoles and, hopefully, newer platforms.

"Our second project will be a racing game," he told Develop. "A spiritual successor to one of the Burnout series for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

"We aim to support PlayStation VR and Oculus Rift."

It should be an interesting VR experience given that Three Fields’ Twitter tease mentioned "Speed. Traffic. Lots and lots of crashing".

More information on this driving game is likely to emerge after the release of Three Fields’ initial title, a multiplayer sports title that Ward tells us is also heading to PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

The game is due to be unveiled early next year "when it’s pretty much complete", ahead of its spring release. Given the timeline of these announcements, and the relatively small team at Three Fields, it’s most likely that this first game will be a download title.
