Square Enix’s 2013 reboot of Tomb Raider has sold more than 8.5 million units.
The figure makes it the best-selling game in the series. Overall, the franchise has sold over 40 million copies, meaning the reboot’s sales make up over a fifth of all Tomb Raider games sold since 1996.
“Tomb Raider ignited and expanded the fan base, pushing the series to a new level,” said Crystal Dynamics studio head David Gallagher.
“The game’s incredible sales success reflects the passionate response of players. Our studio is proud of what we accomplished with the game.”
The next entry in the series, Rise of the Tomb Raider, is expected to be released on Xbox One later this year.
