Transformers: Fall of Cybertron makes surprise appearance on PS4 and Xbox One

Activision’s 2012 licensed outing Transformers: Fall of Cybertron has received a surprise release on PS4 and Xbox One.

Despite the lack of official announcement, the game can currently be had from PSN for 29.99 or Xbox Live for 39.99. For your money you also get the game’s three pieces of DLC.

The original was developed by High Moon Studios. Following on from the events of its predecessor War for Cybertron, the sequel features an epic opening with citybot Metroplex, and also introduces dinobot leader Grimlock. Long-term Optimus Prime voice actor Peter Cullen is present and correct.

Yesterday was in fact the 30-year anniversary of the release of animated epic Transformers: The Movie. Can you believe it?

Three whole decades since swatches of characters we adored were wiped out in the name of ushering in a new toy line. Optimus Prime and Megatron slain in the name of commerce. Still, we are quite partial to some Ultra Magnus, Kup, Arcee, Perceptor, Blurr, Blaster and Hot Rod (or Rodimus Prime, if you prefer).

Did you know Transformers: The Movie contains the final performance from Orson Welles? He voiced the planet-devouring Unicron. The late Leonard Nimoy starred, too, as Megatron’s reincarnation Galvatron. And Eric Idle. And Judd Nelson. The original edit also had some swearing in it, which was cut in some countries before being reintroduced in various home video edits.

We could go on like this all day. And don’t even get us started on the second hand prices of Hasbro’s deluxe Optimus Prime figure from War for Cybertron…
