Vision Engine 8 platform adds Substance Air and Redux

Trinigy integrates two â??texture-slimmingâ?? tools

Two Allegorithmic development tools have been incorporated into the Vision Engine 8 platform, game engine vendor Trinigy has announced.

Trinigy says its Vision Engine can now incorporate both Substance Air and Substance Redux – two tools used for reducing the memory needed for high-quality games.

Compression tool Substance Redux, for example, is said can squeeze the size of bitmap textures by some 50 per cent – and according to the company “without any noticeable loss of quality or performance in-game”.

Substance Air, meanwhile, is a texturing tool that can build high-quality surface images at a small memory cost.

Allegorithmic says developers can do more with less using its middleware tools, providing “detailed graphics that fit in a few kilobytes”, along with a hybrid-approach to creating textures that allows developers to mix procedural maps together with SVGs and bitmaps.

Their integration into Trinigy’s platform is said will particularly aid customers building MMOs with Vision Engine’s scene editor, known as vForge.

“Trinigy has always worked closely with its customers and partners to provide a solution that not only boosts game performance across platforms, but that increases workflow productivity in the game development process,” said Trinigy managing director Dag Frommhold.

“This new integration with Allegorithmic’s products achieves all of those goals. Not only was this integration highly requested by our growing MMO and browser game customer base; it speeds a developer’s access to textures that are perfectly suited for streaming game environments and tiny download needs.”
