2013 a 'tipping point' for game streaming, says broadcasting firm

Twitch spectators watched 12 billion minutes per month in 2013

Twitch spectators watched 12 billion minutes worth of game content each month on the service in 2013, the broadcasting firm has claimed.

During the last year, Twitch reported 45 million unique viewers per month, more than doubling the 20 million people who tuned into the game streams in 2012.

It added that on average each user watched 106 minutes worth of games broadcasts each day.

In total, six million videos were broadcast every month during 2013, again doubling the previous year’s amount. There were also more than 900,000 unique broadcasters on Twitch every month, triple the number from 2012.

Twitch has described 2013 as a "tipping point" for game streaming.

"When video game historians look back on gaming a decade from now, 2013 will be the year they cite as the tipping point of streaming," stated Twitch.

"Every major event, publisher, developer, and media outlet in the gaming industry had a presence on Twitch, and streaming became an ever-present piece of the gaming experience. And it’s only going to get bigger."
