Quebec government contributing $510,000 towards expansion

Ubisoft plots 100 new jobs in Quebec with $28m investment

Ubisoft is investing $28 million into its Quebec City studio, the Assassin’s Creed and Watch Dogs developer has announced.

The investment will be used to strengthen the studio’s infrastructure and recruit some 100 new staff. The Canada office currently houses 320 staff.

The Quebec government is also supporting the studio’s expansion, and is contributing $510,000 towards that goal.

“We’re pleased to be reinforcing our presence and our expertise in Quebec City with the help of the government” said Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot.

“Ubisoft is home to more than 9,000 talented team members worldwide who are dedicated to creating the best games in the industry. Our Quebec City studio has demonstrated its ability to manage large-scale projects and it is a natural progression to entrust the team with the production of triple-A next-gen games.”

Ubisoft Quebec MD Nicolas Rioux added: "Since the studio opened its doors, we’ve worked on almost 25 games, and our team of more than 320 talented people is recognised for its creativity and innovation. This investment will enable the studio to take the lead on the development of triple-A next-gen games."

Ubisoft Quebec was opened in 2005, and has worked on titles in the Assassin’s Creed, Might & Magic and Prince of Persia franchises.

In September the publisher announced a significant $373 million investment into its Quebec operations over the next seven years, with plans to generate 500 more jobs in the province.

It is not currently clear if the $28 million investment is in addition to this. Develop has contacted Ubisoft for clarification on the matter.
