Ubisoft Romania is to increase its headcount over the coming months, adding more than120 to the 650 people currently employed at the publisher’s various locations in the country, reports Financiarul.
By mid-2009, 75 will join the office in Bucharest, which serves as Ubisoft’s regional centre in the country, while the Craiova location will offer 51 additional vacancies. Ubisoft Romania is expecting to close 2008 with investment worth 15 million Euros.
Along with 35 positions for testers, it is hoped 65 positions will be filled by game developers, predominantly across programming and design. Sebastinen Delen, managing director of Ubisoft Eastern Europe said: “We are employing some 850 people in Eastern Europe, and our target is to reach 1,000 video game developers next year, 800 of them in Romania, in the offices in Bucharest and Craiova, as well as in other cities.”
Delen also expressed optimism about the credit crunch: “During this period, people have not travelled a lot, have not made investment, have not consumed a lot. Instead of all this, they have stayed at home and played video games. We expect the local video game market to keep growing next year.”
