UK CHARTS: FIFA on top

With Chelsea smashing eight goals past the hapless Wigan to hold firm at the top of the Premier League, EA’s 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa did the same in the ELSPA GfK Chart-Track All Formats Top 40.

It’s the second week at number one for the football sim, though it will be a big ask for it to sustain the position in the five weeks between the end of the domestic football season and the start of the World Cup.

Of equal interest is the surge of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare from ninth place all the way up to number three.

A quick look at the format share shows that it does so not because of the arrival of the Stimulus DLC on PSN but instead because of some heavy discounting on the High Street.

Elsewhere in the Top Ten Capcom’s Super Street Fighter IV falls four places to number six while Square Enix’s Just Cause 2 re-enters the Top 10 in tenth.

Sega’s Iron Man 2 soars from 20th to 12th with Sony’s God of War Collection heading the other way – that drops ten places to number 20.
There are a couple of new entries lower down the listings – Nintendo’s Wario Ware DIY debuts in 24th and Sony’s Invizimals enters the charts in 28th. Discounting also sees Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare re-enter the charts at number 40.

Here’s the ELSPA GfK Chart-Track All Formats Top 10 in full (for the week ending May 8th):

1. 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa (EA)
2. Just Dance (Ubisoft)
3. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision)
