UK CHARTS: New DLC lifts Left 4 Dead

The benefits of freely downloadable DLC have been demonstrated this week by the re-entry of Valve’s Left 4 Dead in the ELSPA GfK-ChartTrack All Formats Top 40 just days after the developer released hyped new DLC for the title.

Last week saw the release of the Survival pack, a free to download patch that introduced a brand new multiplayer component to Valve’s critically adored online shooter.

Eyebrows were raised when it was announced that the Survival Pack would be free to download. Owing to the popularity of the title and the devoted following it has garnered, there was clearly plenty of money to be made from charging for the DLC.

However, in making it free the retail version of Left 4 Dead, which is published by EA, has been given a significant boost, re-entering the charts for the first time in weeks in 36th spot.
