UK games retail makes £14.6m

Kinect Star Wars helped the UK games retail market get back on track last week, which generated over 2m more than it did the prior week.

The title pipped FIFA Street to the No.1 spot and became the first Kinect-required game to top the charts.

It wasn’t just a handful of Top Ten games which performed well during the week ending April 7th, either. Retailers enjoyed strong sales across the board over the Easter weekend, with kids and fighting games selling well, such as Moshi Monsters, Skylanders and WWE ‘12.

Market value and unit sales rose by almost a quarter, with 14.6m generated from game sales last week.

Almost 150,000 more titles were sold week-on-week, with unit sales reaching 645,599.

It’s a good week for RPG consumers coming up, with Nintendo’s Pandora’s Tower arriving today (Friday, April 13th) and Namco Bandai’s The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings hitting shelves this coming Tuesday (April 17th).
