UK inter-school eSports competition to take place as part of London Games Festival

The list of events that make up the London Games Festival have been announced and a surprise eSports competition is in the mix.

The Digital Schoolhouse eSports Tournament Grand Final will take place on April 4th at the Gfinity Arena. 400 secondary schools and sixth forms have been competing online in Rocket League in hopes of booking a slot at the finals, but with only four teams making it to the arena competition has been fierce.

The event will see the final four teams battle it out with the full Gfinity event production being used for the event.

Elsewhere in the London Games Festival EGX Rezzed, Dear Esther Live and Videobrains are particular highlights.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: “Growing the city’s culture and creative industries is so important, and as Mayor, I’m delighted to welcome this year’s London Games Festival, which promises to showcase the best of the city’s imagination, game design and innovation. Home to more than 500 games companies and top talent from around the world, London is right at the forefront of cutting-edge technology, and this exciting festival celebrates the richness of our thriving games industry.”
