UK retail sells 3m games last week

UK games retailers took a whopping 73.9m last week from game sales alone.

In total 2,978,493 titles were sold last week. It’s up over the week before, although slightly down on the comparable week in 2010.

But this year there’s still a full sales week to come, including a Saturday which falls on Christmas eve.

The biggest seller was Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which was named Christmas No.1 yesterday. Although it was increased sales of Just Dance 3, Modern Warfare 3, Saints Row: The Third, Battlefield 3, and Need For Speed: The Run that grew the market last week.

It was the second biggest week of the year so far. The biggest sales week was during the launch week of Skyrim and Modern Warfare 3, when 3,289,421 games were sold, generating 120.8m.

These numbers do not factor in sales of digital products, such as games sold via Steam or Xbox Live.
